The title of this album is a personal tribute to one of my favourite composers, Leonard Bernstein. It was inspired by I Hate Music!, Bernstein’s song from I Hate Music! A Cycle of Five Kid Songs, composed for soprano and piano in 1943.

Although my career as an opera soprano singer has led me far from its repertoire, musical theatre is an all-time passion of mine. In 2003, I had the immense privilege of making my debut in this genre, playing the role of Maria in West Side Story. Since then, I have always felt the desire to devote an entire project to musical theatre.

Timeless masterpieces such as the ones contained here require a vast vocal versatility, and performing them has been a challenge I greatly enjoyed. At the same time, the sonic structure of this album – through its elegant and essential design, specifically created for voice and string quartet – breathes new life into these iconic pieces of American musicals.
